To address these questions, we use wood frog populations as a model systems. Wood frogs vary dramatically in their tolerance to pollutants. Consistent with predictions of evolved pesticide tolerances, we've found that populations living closer to agriculture are more tolerant to insecticides than those living farther from agriculture. To understand baseline tolerance and the ability to induce tolerance (plasticity), we rely mostly on laboratory toxicity assays.
